Yeah ... four-more-levels' worth of EASY experience. There's enough quests and experience to reach level 7 easily. You're going to have a tough time in the world if you aren't at least level 6 or 7 before you leave for the Academy ...

8.5 and still going, I am doing all the quests and am attempting to challenge the Charr in the Northern lands Pre-sear...
Mainly because it is a pity to see the landscape destroyed after 10 mins in the microwave.

You can actually defeat those char up north if you can lure a small number of them next to the ressurection shrine where the academy monk are... you do not recieve any DP therefore, just keep reviving and fighting (almost like viking's heaven).
I was able to take out 6 charrs (1 mesemer 2 monk 1 warrior 2 ranger), with 1 elementalist and 1 monk both lv5. However, we did not bother to go any farther than that for pre-searing.

what i was wondering is that, in the pre-searing area, you can find the magical temple-style device that they use to sear ascalon, along with the guys who are in the cut-scene destroying it. I wonder if i kill them all (NOT an easy task trust me) then searing will never happen? :P nah, don't worry, searing will still happen, you just manage to see all the guys you killed appear again...

Naw, I don't think so. Like most I left before then, completed the first 2 missions in post searing in my lvl 1 armour at level 5 and then 6, paired up with two of the bots and a lvl 6 elementalist. I'd say going through at level 3 might be tough, especially if you make parties with nothing but lvl 3 bots, but it's all doable.

forgot to mention - its well worth staying in pre-searing until you are at least level 6 - the many quests there allow you to level up pretty quickly until all the creatures start giving you crap experience (when you turn lvl 7). also, it makes Post-searing a lot easier.

has anyone actually managed to kill all the char there? me and a friend killed 3 groups of them but didn't attempt to take down the mass of char by the altar. props to anyone who has managed that feat.

I am collecting as much Dye as possible for resale in Post-Searing $$$$$- Muwhahaha! Got 8 so far!
And I too want to take on those high level Charr Mobs on the other side of the Great Northernwall but with the party limitation of only two players makes that area next to impossible to do: Very tuff mobs!!!!

Can someone explain to me what is "pre-searing" and if we are "pre-searing" what is "searing"? I know we're not cooking here...

The trick is teamwork and watching how the mobs move. Oh, and taking out as many of the minions as possible before tackling the bosses...... It's doable if you don't mind dying -- A LOT.

I went Post Searing at lvl 3 in the BWE. Bad decision. I only had a handfull of powers, no cash, suck weapons. It was a hard row to ploy.
This time I'm shooting for level 6 to 8, then go Post Sear. I've got 500+ gold, 10 or 12 skills, several good identified weapons. I'm much better prepared for Post Sear this timr around.

The "Searing" is an event that takes place after you go through the gate to hunt Charr (Sir Something takes you there). Once you go past the gate, you are in post-searing and will not be able to access the beginning areas.

No. When you join the Academy you enter Post Searing. That's when the Charr attack. Everything goers Mad Max Apocolyptic once you finish the academy
You can go beyond the wall to the Charr base that is still Pre-Searing.

The Char are difficult, but not impossible. As it has been said, watch how groups move, and try to separate them by ranged attacking a very small number, and then running a little bit to make just a small group follow you. I was a level 6 Mes/nec, with a ranger/ele and we were down to the last 5 guys around the cauldron (2 bosses killed) and I had to quit (time). It's doable, and it would be even easier with a character designed to stand up to Char attacks I just hexed to death. Oh yeah, I did die quite a few times
